packing tips and what to pack
Baltic Singles Cruise

Passport and Visas:

A valid passport with over 6 months before expiration is required. American & Canadian citizens will need a visa to enter Russia. If you are taking a tour with Best Single Travel and/or the cruise line the Russian visa is included in the tour price.

Local Currency:

When traveling to Copenhagen, you will need to exchange your money to the Danish Krone. The Russian (St Petersburg) currency is the Ruble, divided into 100 kopecks.
Berlin, Germany - Helsinki, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia accept the Euro
Stockholm, Sweden is on the Krona

Since each port has it’s own currency, money can be exchanged onboard as well as onshore. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere. We recommend taking small bills to avoid getting too much change in foreign currency.

The best places for exchange are usually the local banks and Foreign Exchange Bureaus. You can exchange, upon arrival at your destination airport, but the rates may not be the best. Check with your bank for their exchange rates. Check here for currency exchange rates

Electric Plugs:

The electric outlets about Norwegian Cruise ships are the same outlets as the Unted States & Canada

What to Wear Onboard your singles cruise

On Norwegian Cruises you can dress in resort casual or get decked-out and look your best - it’s your call.. There is even a special “Dress-Up or Not Night.”

During the day and in the buffet and most specialty restaurants the dress is cruise casual. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. For men Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required. Cruise casual is also allowed day and night on embarkation day.

Wear smart casual if you are eating dinner in the formal dining room and in Le Bistro. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it’s jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes.

We want you to be comfortable, but tank tops for men, flip flops, baseball caps, visors and jeans that are overly faded, with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted in main dining rooms or specialty restaurants.

You may want to pack a sweater too—air conditioning can be chilly.

Since suitcases are collected the night before we return home, don’t forget an overnight bag for prescriptions and need-to-have items.

Phones and Internet:

The Norwegian Star has an Internet Café for those of you that need to go on online. You can also telephone, telex, radiogram or fax to anywhere in the world and be billed at applicable ship-to-shore rates. Norwegian guests can also be contacted on our ships by calling 1.888.NCSHIPS (1.888.627.4477) from the USA. For the rest of the world please dial 1.732.335.3280. When guests are contacted with the ship via satellite, they can be reached directly, if they are in their stateroom. If not, a message about the incoming call will be delivered to their stateroom and then they can call back the shore via satellite. Norwegian guests can also make and receive calls, send and receive text messages and read emails on their own cell phones and mobile devices just as they do on land when the ship is at sea with the Freestyle Cellular Service. Check with your cell carrier for international roaming rates.

Shopping:

Copenhagen, Denmark is the place to buy Legos. Scandinavian Crystal and Royal Copenhagen porcelain are also great gifts to purchase. The main shopping area is Stroget, where Copenhagen's main stores and cafes can be found along the 2 miles (3.2km).

Berlin, Germany - For something characteristically Berlin, pick up a souvenir boasting an image of the cult figure, Ampelmann, found on everything from tote bags to t-shirts around the city. There is now also a female version, the Ampelfrau.

Tallinn, Estonia is known for Handicraft items such as hand-knitted woollen sweaters with traditional Estonian folk patterns, carved wooden beer mugs, fun felt hats, juniper coasters and limestone candle holders. Dark, bittersweet Estonian chocolate and other local sweets produced by the Kalev confectionery. Original art such as graphic prints, handmade jewellery, colourful glassware or fine ceramics.

St. Petersburg, Russia has a growing number of stores offering a variety of goods and services including everything from handmade arts, crafts, and souvenirs. You can find rare antiques or an original artwork by a number of talented artists.

Helsinki, Finland is a paradise for shopaholics. You can find international luxury items and the best of Finnish design. The city has several interior decoration stores where you can enjoy classic Finnish design and interesting novelties by new designers – not to mention the fashion stores!

Stockholm, Sweden - the Dala Horse is the souvenir of souvenirs to bring from Sweden, an unofficial national symbol. Named after their origin, the province of Dalarna, these small wooden horses have been around since the 17th century. They are normally painted orange or blue with symmetrical decorations.
