You could start a discussion about Venice by praising its restaurants, wine bars, marble churches or blown glass. But you probably won't. You'll likely start with the fact that Venice is built on water. It is a place where people either float slowly down palace-lined man-made waterways or stroll down narrow alleyways. There's no more extraordinary place to find yourself, or lose yourself. Be sure to stay in Venice before your next European cruise.

Vacation Day 5: Brasov – Prejmer – Bicaz – Red Lake – Gura Humorului (Monday, Nov 4, 2024)
After breakfast we depart for the historical region of Bucovina, famous for its painted monasteries. Our first stop will be Prejmer to visit the largest fortified church in Southeastern Europe, built by the Teutonic knights between 1212 and 1213. The powerful surrounding walls are 40 feet high and 10-15 feet thick. Historical records attest that in its 500 years of existence, the fortress was besieged 50 times. However, it was only captured once, in 1611 by Gabriel Báthori, Prince of Transylvania; the fighters defending the fortress have surrendered after not having drinking water available for several days.
Then we travel to Bicaz to visit the dramatic gorge, cut through the limestone hills of the region by the action of Bicaz river which created zig zags sharply downhill. A notable part of the canyon is the neck of hell. At short distance is the Red Lake, naturally formed when a landslide in 1838 dammed Bicaz river and created what it is often considered to be one of Romania's oddest natural wonders. Enjoy an included lunch at Lacu Rosu (Red Lake) before we depart for Gura Humorului to check in to our hotel in the late afternoon.
Vacation Day 6: Painted Monasteries Tour (Tuesday, Nov 5, 2024)
We start our day with a visit to Voronet Monastery, located in the beautiful village with the same name. The Monastery was built in 1488 by the greatest ruling prince of Moldavia, Stefan the Great, in a record time-three months and three weeks- and painted on the outside walls during the time of his son, the prince Petru Rares. The most important of the frescoes is 'The Judgment Day', painted on the whole western facade, that determined the monument to be called 'The Sistine Chapel of the East'. The scene, the simplest and the most dramatic composition, is processed in a characteristic Moldova way: the souls carried to heaven are wrapped in Moldova's towels, while the souls doomed to the fire of Ghenna wear the turbans of the Turks, the Moldova's enemies.
Our next stop will be stop in Marginea village to visit a black ceramics workshop to learn more about its history and traditions. Then the Museum of Painted Eggs, in Vama for a workshop to learn the fine art of painting eggs with professor Letitia. Once familiar with the symbols and the techniques of decoration we can decorate our own eggs. We will visit Moldovita Monastery, erected in 1532 by the illegitimate son of Stephan the Great. See the throne of the former Moldavian ruler and furniture dating back to the Middle Ages. Next is Sucevita Monastery from the XVI’th century and is encircled by high walls fortified with massive corner towers. It is the church with the greatest number of frescoes in Moldova.
Tonight we stay at the Golden Crown Hotel, built as a homage to the "Dracula" novel. In this book, the fictional character Jonathan Harker arrives into a city in Transylvania and spends a night at The Golden Crown Hotel.
Vacation Day 7: Gura Humorului – Reghin – Targu Mures – Sighisoara ( Wednesday, Nov 6, 2024 )
Today we head towards Bistrita in northern Transylvania for a pleasant walking tour. Enjoy the medieval atmosphere of the old town's quaint 15th and 16th century merchants' houses and the remains of the 13th century fortress walls.
Then we travel to Targu Mures, known as the city of roses, population is almost an even Romanian-Hungarian split. During our walking tour discover the centrally located Piata Trandafirilor (Roses Square), lined with modern street side cafes, churches, and monuments. The main attraction is the Culture Palace, a flamboyant early 20th-century city hall with an outstanding stained-glass hall that houses local museums.
In the late afternoon we arrive in Sighisoara and check into our hotel.
Vacation Day 8: Sighisoara – Biertan – Hosman – Sibiu (Thursday, Nov 7, 2024 )
Sighisoara is the best-preserved medieval fortified town in Romania and the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. On our morning walking tour we visit the Church on the Hill and the famous Clock Tower Museum with its Torture and Weapons Rooms. Then we travel to the Saxon village of Biertan to see the fortress church that has the largest wing altar in Romania and was used as the residence of the Lutheran bishop of
Transylvania for over 300 years.
Our travels continue as we pass and drive through local Saxon villages to reach our next destination, Hosman, population 720. We will visit a working farm and attend a fun bread baking class. Bake bread following old traditional Transylvania recipes and enjoy a light lunch as well - it is more like a light buffet since the farmers offer us a lot of appetizers, wine, drinks, cakes, etc.
In the late afternoon we arrive in Sibiu and check in to our hotel located in the pedestrian area of the old town.
Vacation Day 9: Sibiu – Cozia – Curtea de Arges – Bucharest (Friday, Nov 8, 2024 )

We will stroll through the old quarter with its Clock Tower, Roman-Catholic Baroque Church, the Great and Lesser squares, Liar's Bridge and the famous Brukenthal Palace, the former summer residence of the Transylvanian governor Samuel von Brukenthal. Enjoy a visit in this historic manor and feel the charm of the spacious gardens dating from the 18th century.

Grand Cayman is one of a group of three magnificent tropical islands Christopher Columbus called "Las Tortugas" (the turtles) for the sea creatures he found in the ocean water. The designation did not endure, however, for on later maps the islands were labeled the Caimanau, the Carib Indian word for "crocodile." The name "Caimanas" refers inaccurately to the iguanas native to the islands, which were perhaps at one point mistaken for crocodiles. Among other attractions, visitors to the island will enjoy learning about the turtles, visiting the town of Hell, exploring Seven-Mile Beach and enjoying the undersea world.

Pacific Coast Singles Cruise Itinerary
Cruise Day 1: Vancouver, British Columbia (Wednesday: October 19 / 4:30pm)
It seems unlikely that a character named "Gassy Jack" Deighton would be responsible for one of the most beautiful cities on the continent. But that's history for you.
During the gold rush, Gassy Jack saw a chance to make money from the hordes of miners on their way to the Yukon. The saloon he built became the focus of the shanty town known as Gastown. From that ragtag group of shacks, modern Vancouver was born. The provincial government persuaded settlers to change the name of the town to Vancouver, after Captain George Vancouver, who sailed the region's waters in 1792. Canada's third-largest city, Vancouver is a cosmopolitan place with a European feel and a personality all its own. It's a community with a rich ethnic mix - including the second-largest Chinatown in North America - and stunningly beautiful parks.
Cruise Day 2: Nanaimo, B.C., Canada (Thursday: October 20 / 7:00am - 6:00pm)
Located on Vancouver Island, Nanaimo is about 55 km west of Vancouver and separated by the Strait of Georgia, but directly linked to the mainland via BC Ferries.
Nanaimo began as a trading post in the early 1800s. In 1849 the Snuneymuxw chief Ki-et-sa-kun informed the Hudson's Bay Company of the presence of coal in the area, and in 1853 the company built a fort known as the Nanaimo Bastion. Subsequently the town was chiefly known for the export of coal. Nanaimo is home to Petroglyph Provincial Park, where visitors can view ancient petroglyph rock carvings and runes. Newcastle Island is another provincial park in Nanaimo, and was at one time a world-famous summertime tourist destination. The city lays claim to the oldest continuous community band in Canada, The Nanaimo Concert Band, established in 1872. Nanaimo is also known for its bathtub race during the annual marine festival, the famous Nanaimo bar dessert and for the cannon firing on the parapet next to the Bastion every day at noon during the summer months and for special events.
Cruise Day 3: Seattle, Washington (Friday: October 21 / 7:00am - 4:00pm)
Seattle is a young city with a rich history. Settlers first landed at Alki Point in 1851 and named the area after Sealth, the Suquamish Indian chief who befriended them. Rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1889, "The Emerald City" has a legacy of vision and strength. Seattle has hosted two World's Fairs (1909 and 1962) and is the birthplace of two modern marvels, Boeing and Microsoft. Known for its rainy climate, Seattle actually averages less annual rainfall than many East Coast cities. The mild weather, spectacular natural surroundings and rich cultural diversity attract visitors from around the world. Seattle tours are available to passengers with afternoon flights or an overnight stay in Seattle after their cruise.
Cruise Day 4: Astoria, Oregon (Saturday: October 22 / 10:am - 6:00pm)
As the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies, Astoria offers a rich history for your exploration. It was first visited by Captain Robert Gray in 1792, by the Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery in 1805, then adventuresome pioneers by the thousands. Now its your turn to experience the excitement of exploring Astoria. Within a 20 mile radius, one can see dozens of exciting attractions including Fort Stevens State Park, Fort Astoria, Heritage Center Museum, Flavel House Museum, Uppertown Fire Fighters Museum, Astoria Column and the Columbia River Maritime Museum, home to one of the nation's finest displays of model ships and nautical artifacts. Astoria offers other fun discoveries, such as historic Victorian homes and the beautiful 4.1 mile-long Astoria Bridge.
Cruise Day 5: At Day at Sea (Sunday: October 23)
to enjoy all the amenities of the Star Princess
Cruise Day 6: San Francisco, California (Monday: October 24 / 7:00am - 11:00pm)
Cable cars, the Golden Gate rising from the fog - welcome to San Francisco, arguably the most romantic and cosmopolitan city in the United States. San Francisco has it all: a colorful history, superb restaurants, sophisticated museums, world-class shopping, and that elusive air of romance and abandon that's part of the tang of the city.
Cruise Day 7: At Day at Sea (Tuesday: October 25)
to enjoy all the amenities of the Star Princess
Cruise Day 8: Los Angeles, California (Wednesday: October 26 / 7:00am)
The City of Angels always hovers between dream and reality. Once a near-forgotten colonial outpost, the pueblo metamorphosed into an agrarian paradise before reinventing itself as a movie colony. Perhaps no other city owes so much to the technological innovations of the 20th century, from the automobile to the airplane. Little wonder that LA is oft described as the "dream machine." In LA, reinvention is a way of life. Yet this talent for change has created a city with a rich ethnic diversity and a sizzling culture. LA is the source for trends that migrate across the country and then the world. Where else can you enjoy a Thai taco or munch on a kosher burrito? Or travel from downtown's high rises to the beaches of Malibu, shopping in Beverly Hills along the way? Los Angeles is a port of embarkation and disembarkation for some cruises.
Inside Cabin - Interior staterooms are an excellent value. These spacious staterooms have no window which is great if you like to sleep late!

The unique seabirds around Willis Island are a joy to watch. One of their strange habits is to pretend to have a broken wing if a human gets near one of their nests; hopping away, the "wounded" bird tries to lead the approaching person astray. Many other birds also wheel around this tiny island, including wedge-tailed shearwaters, sooty terns and common and black noddies.
