Cruise Day 2: Brussels / Bruges (Zeebrugge), Belgium (Monday: June 3, 2024 / 9:00am - 6:00pm) Bruges is an ancient city located in the northern part of Belgium, about 62 miles from Brussels. The city was once a main port of Belgium welcomed artists and nobles from Europe during the 15th century and is distinguished by canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. Its port, Zeebrugge, is an important center for fishing and European trade. In the city center’s Burg square, the 14th-century Stadhuis (City Hall) has an ornate carved ceiling. Nearby, Market square features a 13th-century belfry with a 47-bell carillon and a 272 foot tower with panoramic views.
Included Shore Excursion: Shuttle to Bruges & Private Walking Tour - Our drive to Bruges is about a half an hour and where our walking tour begins. Our old town walk will take us to the best of countless bridges, chocolate shops and medieval treasures highlighting the splendor of this historically rich city. Having gracefully aged from its days as a medieval trading center, Bruges seems almost too good to be true, made of stunning gothic and Renaissance buildings and presenting a charming atmosphere today.
We will tour the striking canal side views, cross legendary bridges and have some breaks for photos at the Market Square, Belfry Tower, Quay of the Rosary, Chapel of the Holy Blood and Saint John’s Hospital, an eight hundred-year-old venue once caring for pilgrims and travelers.

Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths.

Travelers associate Holland with its windmills, and Zaanse Schans has plenty of historic windmills and houses, most completed in the late 1500s to the 1600s. At one time, Zaanse Schans had more than 500 windmills along its canals. Sadly, most of them are long gone. Strokkur, the Great Geysir's little brother, is spouting to a height of about 82 ft and erupts in 5-7 minute intervals. One of the Golden Circles many highlights is the Gullfoss waterfall, the queen of Iceland's waterfalls. We will walk around the Falls, where the river Hvitá tumbles 105 ft in a double cascade. When the sun is shining, we're likely to see a rainbow through the massive spray that forms.
Finally, but no less spectacular is a visit to the Þingvellir National Park (Thingvellir), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll around the country's most sacred site, home of the oldest existing parliament in the world, the Alþingi. Thingvellir, a place of fascinating natural beauty, is set on a vast plain flanked by large fissures, right in Iceland's largest lake, Thingvallavatn. Venice, like all other regions in Italy, has its own food specialities. Cookery holidays to Venice and the Veneto region offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the culinary traditions of the region. Obviously, due to the proximity to the sea, there are a large selection of seafood dishes to choose from. Not only is the lagoon known for its fresh seawater dishes, there are also an interesting number of inland fresh fish dishes. Preserving fish either by marinating them or keeping them in salt water was a very common technique that still continues to this day.
Our portfolio of villas are spread throughout the Veneto region, close to towns such as Conegliano and Treviso. You will be surrounded by the quiet nature of the woodlands, pastures and rolling hills; a perfect idyllic escape from the everyday life. Enjoy full use of the villa's pool and beautifully manicured gardens, perfect for relaxing and dining al fresco.
Benvenuti! Welcome to the Veneto! Our Flavours transfer will meet you at Marco Polo Airport upon arrival. Once you arrive at the villa, you can settle in, meet your host and enjoy welcome drinks. Dinner tonight at the villa, prepared by your chef.
After breakfast you will have your first hands-on cookery lesson with the chef, followed by lunch. In the afternoon you’ll have the afternoon to relax before dinner at the villa.
Following breakfast, our transfer will collect the group and take you to Venice. Here you will have the day at your leisure to wander around this stunning city. Whether you choose to explore the mysterious passageways by foot or float along the maze of canals, Venice offers an abundance of stunning architecture and breath-taking views. Lunch will be at our favourite local Bacaro, sampling the city’s classic cicchetti. Later this afternoon, you will return to the villa for dinner.
After breakfast, we’ll head to Treviso to visit the Isolotto della Pescheria, Treviso’s famous fish market. There will be time to explore this fascinating walled town before travelling to a nearby vineyard for a Prosecco tasting and lunch. Later this afternoon, you will return to the villa for another hands-on cookery lesson with the chef, enjoying your dishes for dinner.
After breakfast, you will be cooking in the kitchen with your chef, followed by lunch. The afternoon is yours to relax at the villa, before dinner tonight, prepared by your chef.

Nicknamed the heel of Italy, Puglia, in Italy’s warm south, offers a charming laid-back atmosphere. The sun-baked land is dotted with fortified castles and whitewashed trulli, Puglia’s distinctive conical-shaped dwellings, and carpeted with a silvery sea of ancient olive groves. It also has an incredibly rich natural larder. The area produces most of the country’s extra virgin olive oil, excellent full-bodied wines and is famous for intensely flavoured olives, almonds and figs. Other specialities include orecchiette pasta, seafood risotto, fava beans and burrata, the supremely creamy cheese similar to mozzarella. You won’t go hungry between your painting holiday sessions here in Puglia.
Sights to savour with your artistic eye include the turquoise sea and long sandy beaches, as well as 13th-century Swabian castle, the city of Lecce’s Baroque churches, the hillside views from Specchia and Otranto cathedral’s amazing mosaic floor, the work of a 12th-century monk. There’s plenty of inspiration for sketching and painting, with help and advice from our resident tutor.
