Trip Tips and What to Pack for Your
Costa Rica Singles Vacation

Country Information

Costa Rica is located in Central America between Nicaragua and Panama and is one of the most-visited international tourist destinations. The main reasons for this are the country’s tropical climate and geographical desirability, which ranges from green mountain rainforest's to gorgeous beaches on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. A democratic and peaceful country—Costa Rica has not had an army since the year 1949—its people are friendly and highly educated.

Although Costa Rica is a small country in terms of area, there is a lot going on here in terms of weather. Though generally classified as a tropical country because of its close proximity to the equator, Costa Rica has no real summer or winter, and the sun shines here throughout the year. With over 12 hours of sunshine a day, the sun rises at about 5 am and sets at about 6 pm consistently throughout the year.
In San José and most tourist towns, the tap water is safe to drink. However, if you go to remote areas, especially on the Atlantic coast, you should drink purified water only. Best Single Travel recommends drinking bottled water at all times.

Visas

Passport-carrying nationals of the following countries are allowed 90 days’ stay with no visa: most western European countries, Argentina, Canada, Israel, Japan, Panama and the USA.
Citizens of Australia, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa and Venezuela are allowed to stay for 30 days with no visa. Others require a visa from a Costa Rica embassy or consulate. These lists are subject to continual change

Other nationalities please check with your local Costa Rica Embassy.

There is a departure tax of $26 USD for visitor that is to be paid at the airport. The best way to pay this is by cash. If you choose to pay by credit card beware that this is actually debited as a cash transaction and there will be bank fees.

Costa Rica Currency

Costa Rica money is called the colon. 1 USD = 509 Colons. US dollar is accepted almost everywhere so there is no need to exchange. Prices in Costa Rica are frequently listed in US dollars, especially at upmarket hotels and restaurants, Canadian dollars are not widely accepted. Check here for currency exchange rates

ATMs are common in San Jose, but will be hard to find in smaller towns. Credit cards are widely accepted, please call your credit card company and let them know you will be traveling to Costa Rica.

Costa Rica Time

All of Costa Rica is in the GMT -6 zone, which corresponds to U.S. Central Time during winter months, and U.S. Mountain Time when the U.S. is in daylight savings time. The length of days in Costa Rica varies by only half an hour between seasons, so Costa Rica does not observe daylight savings time.

Electric Plugs

Costa Rica's electricity supply is 110V AC at 60 Hz - If you're traveling from the U.S. or Canada leave the electric converters and plug adapters at home. Weather

There is not a bad time for a Costa Rica singles vacation as the average annual temperature is between 70 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit and the coolest months of the year are November, December and January. The months March through May are the hottest months of the year, so make sure you protect yourself from the sun.

What to Pack for Your Costa Rica Vacation

Remember to pack all your liquids in your suitcase or you must follow the TSA rules for carry-ons - 3-1-1 = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger

One easily managed medium suitcase (bus to boat…) and 1 carry on bag. Some days you will be out all day so bring a small bag or knapsack that you can carry all day.

If you are planning on washing clothes as you go, be aware that laundries are few and far between in Costa Rica, but you can hand wash a few items (things like jeans can take forever to dry). Some of the hotels have laundry services—expect to pay a buck or two per item.

Water is another consideration when planning your wardrobe. Cloud and rainforest's have little regard for phrases like “dry season.” It may not rain during your visit, but the saturating humidity dripping from the leaves and the spray from the inevitable waterfall will make you glad for quick-drying garments.

Phone & Internet

Calling Costa Rica from the United States explained
• 011 - US exit code; must be dialed first for all international calls made from the USA or Canada
• 506 - Country Code for Costa Rica
• phone number - 8 digits
• US to Costa Rica international dialing format: 011 + 506 + 2??? ????

Celll Phone Service - We recommend checking with your individual cell phone carrier to see if your phone will work in Costa Rica and check the international rates for both phone and data. You will have limited phone and Internet service in Tortuguero. There should be readily available Internet in the other parts of the country.
Costa Rica is more known for its adventure activities then for its shopping. Shopping for souvenirs and other items can range from local markets offering traditional goods to large stores and gift shops. Prices at regular shops are fixed and bargaining is uncommon.

Costa Rica Shopping

Coffee is the best buy in Costa Rica. Buy whole beans and not the ground ones. Packaged grinds are much finer than US grinds and more often contain sugar mixed in with the ground coffee. For the best deal, buy coffee beans in the grocery stores.

Costa Rican woodcarvings, mostly bowls, napkin holders and elegant art pieces are good buys.
Local Foods

Costa Rican cuisine is known for being flavorful, yet fairly mild, with high reliance on fresh fruit and vegetables. Rice and beans are the bases of most Costa Rican meals. At breakfast, they're called gallo pinto and come with everything from eggs to steak to seafood. At lunch or dinner, rice and beans are an integral part of a casado, usually consisting of cabbage-and-tomato salad, fried plantains (a starchy, banana-like fruit), and a chicken, fish, or meat dish. On the Caribbean coast, rice and beans are called rice 'n' beans, and are cooked in coconut milk.

Thailand Travel Information, Tips and More

Visa

Visas for Thailand are not required by all nationals for touristic stays of up to 30 days (if entering via an international airport) or 15 days (if entering by land from a neighboring country), provided they hold valid passports and confirmed airline tickets to leave Thailand within the time allowed by their visa, except:

Nationals of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Malta who may apply for visas on arrival for stays of up to 15 days.

Money:

Thailand's currency is called the Thai baht (THB). International access ATMs can be found across the country. You will be expected to use Thai baht for all cash purchases. Credit cards are widely accepted, though small businesses and vendors at market may not accept them.

It's around THB 30 to US $1 (think 1/3)

Note also that almost all Thai banks now charge a 150 Baht (3.90 USD) fee for using a foreign ATM card..

Time:

Thailand Standard Time (TST) or Thailand Time (THT) is a standard time used in Thailand. It is 7 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 12 hours ahead of EST / 15 hours ahead of PST

Electric Plugs

Electricity in Thailand is 220 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you travel to Thailand with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter. Outlets in Thailand generally accept 2 types of plug: Flat Blade Plug & two round pins...If your appliances plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.

Weather

Thailand has three "seasons." The Thais refer to them as the "cool," "hot" and "rainy" seasons. A more accurate description would be "hot," "really HOT" and "really hot AND wet."

The "cool" season from October/November through to March is the prime tourist season. The hot season in Thailand runs from March through June, with April and May the hottest months of the year. The cool season is from November thru February and stills feel hot to most tourists,

The monsoon season usually is accompanied by heavy rain.. This season may start as early as April or May, although it officially begins in June and runs as late as October, when the temperatures begin to cool slightly... Carry an umbrella or raincoat, and you can still enjoy a great vacation in the Thai rainy season.

Mobile Phones

Nowadays it’s relatively easy to use your own mobile phone in Thailand, however, the costs of both making and receiving phone calls can be high. Please check with your carrier for availability and rates.

Calling Thailand from the United States

US to Thailand international dialing format: 011 + 66 + ???? ????
•011 - US exit code; must be dialed first for all international calls made from the USA or Canada

  • phone number - 8 digits
Internet Service

Is available throughout Thailand.  All the hotels have internet access (there may be a fee)

Water

Do not drink from the taps. Always use bottled water.
Ice is always made with clean water and is safe.

Customs and Etiquette

Temples: Dress appropriately – cover your shoulders and legs at least to the knee. Remove your shoes and hat before entering temple buildings.
Buddha: Images of Buddha are highly regarded in Thailand. Purchasing statues and getting Buddhist tattoos (if you are not Buddhist) is disrespectful, and sometimes even illegal.
Royalty: The Thai royal family is also very respected and public criticism of them is illegal. The national anthem is played on the radio at 08:00 and 18:00 and before movies in the cinema, where you will be expected to stand for it.
Feet: Gesturing with your feet is considered very rude.

Tipping

Not necessary, but always appreciated.

Shopping

Thailand is one of the best places in Asia for shopping and you will have lots of choices with the huge, glitzy shopping malls, department stores, small shops and bustling street markets. Both Bangkok and Chiang Mai have excellent night markets (Chiang Mai Market just steps from our hotel)

Good buys include Thai silks and cottons, leather goods, batiks, silver and gold, pottery with celandine green glaze, precious and semiprecious stones (in particular rubies and sapphires are indigenous to Thailand), pearls, dolls, masks, painted umbrellas, lacquer ware, pewter ware, bamboo and wood artifacts and bronze ware.

Tailor-made clothes are also good value and can be made in a matter of days, yet the standard is very high. (The mall right next door to the Sheraton has a nice selection of tailors)

Duty free shops are located throughout the country and items can be purchased there and delivered to the airport in time for the departure flight. Value Added Tax ( 7% ) can be refunded on goods bought in shops labeled 'VAT Refund for Tourists', where there is a minimum transaction of ?2,000 including VAT.

Local Foods

Thai cuisine is distinctive and a favorite of many people around the world. Places to eat traditional Thai food are plentiful and although prices can vary wildly, the quality is generally very good. Thai dishes can sometimes be quite spicy and when a dish is described as “hot” it will be. Thai food is meant to be shared, and all courses will generally arrive together. The cuisine is characterized by a balance of strong flavors, most notably, lime juice, fish sauce, lemongrass, chili and fresh coriander, and is usually accompanied by rice and/or noodles

BeWare: Although the food sold at roadside stalls can be cheap and often very good, meat and chicken should be thoroughly cooked, and be cautious with salads which may have been washed in contaminated water.

Destinations

Bangkok began as a small trading centre and port community on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River some 200 years ago. Now it is Thailand’s capital, a large city known for ornate shrines and vibrant street life. The boat-filled Chao Phraya River feeds its network of canals, flowing past the royal district, home to opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Wat Phra Kaew Temple. Nearby is Wat Pho Temple with an enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun Temple with its steep steps and Khmer-style spire.

Damnoen Saduak is the most popular floating market in Thailand, great for photo opportunities, food, and for giving you an insight into a bygone way of life. The Floating Market is routinely crowded with hundreds of vendors and purchasers floating in their small rowing boats selling and buying agricultural products and local food, which are mostly brought from their own nearby orchards. Therefore, it is a great place for tourists to see this old style and traditional way of selling and buying goods

Phuket is one of the southern provinces (changwat) of Thailand. It consists of the island of Phuket, the country's largest island, and another 32 smaller islands off its coast. It is a rainforested, mountainous island in the Andaman Sea and has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches. Phuket Town is the capital of Phuket Province and Thalang Road is lined with colorful 19th-century shophouses and Sino-Portuguese buildings.

Phuket Walking Street located in Old Town is also-known-as Lardyai (talaad yai), which means ‘big market’ in southern Thai dialect. Thalang is a 1/4 mile long commercial and cosmopolitan street which hosts a mix of Baba (Chinese migrants settled in Phuket at the beginning of the 20th century during the tin mining era), Thai Muslim and Indian shops. Phuket Walking Street allows visitors to discover some typical southern Thai culinary specialties as well as local handicraft and gift stalls.

See the impressive Qutab Minar, a 234-foot-high red sandstone minaret. The buildings in this complex date from the onset of Muslim rule in India. Drive past the government buildings and the Rashtrapati Bhawan (Presidential Palace) along the broad and majestic Rajpath before continuing to Old Delhi.

Jama Masjid Mosque2Then drive by the Red Fort, a symbol of Mughal power. Take a rickshaw ride around Chandni Chowk (an old shopping street) to visit the Jama Masjid Mosque area,  the principal mosque of Old Delhi in India. Commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, builder of the Taj Mahal, and completed in the year 1656 AD, it is the largest and best-known mosque in India. Also visit Raj Ghat, a memorial of the great Mahatma Gandhi, and time permitting the Bhai House of Worship a temple shaped in the form of a Lotus flower. Dinner & Overnight at the Hotel.

Vacation Day 3: Delhi - Agar (Tuesday, October 28, 2025)
Taj MahalIn the morning we travel south 3 1/2 hours to Agra along the Yamuna Expressway. The earliest reference to Agra is in the epic The Mahabharat. Ptolemy, Alexander the Great's geographer, also called it Agra. It was, however, in the medieval period that Agra earned prominence as a capital city under the Mughals. Its many wonderful monuments include the Taj Mahal, the greatest of them all. In the Afternoon visit the Taj Mahal with a guide. The Taj Mahal is simply beautiful—not just in design and technique but also in desire and intent. It was built as a monument to love, a manifestation of life's most powerful emotion. When his wife died unexpectedly, Emperor Shahjahan vowed to honor her with a memorial of unmatched beauty. He commissioned the world's best craftsmen and 20,000 workers to build this beautiful structure. The result is a delicately carved, white marble jewel that seems to float on a sea of red limestone. The Taj Mahal is generally considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements of Persian, Turkish, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles. In 1983, the Taj became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also, visit the Agra fort. Near the gardens of the Taj Mahal stands the important 16th-century Mughal monument known as the Red Fort of Agra. This powerful fortress of red sandstone encompasses, within its 2.5-km walls, the imperial city of the Mughal rulers, which comprises many fairy-tale palaces (Jehangir Mahal and Khas Mahal),, halls of public and private, an audience (Diwan-i-Khas and Diwan-i-Aam)) ; and two lovely mosques

Vacation Day 4: Agra - Fathepur Sikri - Ranthanbhor (Wednesday, October 29, 2025)
Fatehpur SikriEarly in the morning we travel west about 1 1/2 hours to Fatehpur Sikri, the once-fabled Mogul capital that has taken on a sleeping beauty quality, lying quietly but wonderfully preserved. The Great Mughal Emperor Akbar built Fathepur Sikri (the City of Victory) during the second half of the 16th century as the capital of the Mughal Empire. A large number of masons and stone carvers worked hard on an area that was over two miles long and a mile wide. Using the locally available red sand stone, they created a complex of monuments and temples, all in a uniform architectural style, including one of the largest mosques in India, the Jama Masjid. Some fifteen years after the work was completed, it was realized that there was a lack of adequate water supply. The pristine complex was abandoned, and the capital shifted back to Agra. Continue to Rantanbhor, about 3 ½ hours south-west, arriving for lunch at the hotel. Ranthanbhor encompasses nearly 152 square miles of dry deciduous forest in southwestern Rajasthan, and in the heart of this forest, the Ranthambore tigerAravali and Vindhya ranges meet. The park derives its name from the fort of Ranthanbhor, which sits on a rocky outcrop in the forest. The landscape is dotted with ancient Banyan trees, Dhok and Pipal trees, clusters of mango trees, and crisscrossed with evergreen belts. The terrain is made up of massive rock formations, steep scarps, perennial lakes and streams, and forest that suddenly opens up into large areas of savannah. For a relatively small area, the park has a rich diversity of fauna and flora. The species list includes 300 trees, 50 aquatic plants, 272 birds, 12 reptiles (including the marsh crocodile), amphibians, and 30 mammals. Other than the tiger, for which the park is most famous, other predators found are leopards, striped hyenas, jackals, caracals, and jungle cats. Also seen are sloth bear, sambar deer, chital (spotted) deer, nilgai (blue bull) antelope, wild boar, chinkara (Indian) gazelle, Indian hare, mongoose, common langur, palm civet, palm squirrel, porcupine, and monitor lizard. In the afternoon, take a safari to the park to see wildlife in its natural habitat and to “hunt“ for the elusive tiger. inner.

Vacation Day 5: Ranthanbhor - Chittorgarh - Bijaipur  (Thursday, October 30, 2025)
castle bijaipurVery early in the morning, revisit the park for another safari. After breakfast, we will travel south-west for about 5 hours to Bijaipur, with lunch en route.

It is not just a retreat that will leave you breathless with the enchantment of its surroundings, but assists in redefining lifestyles to include the well-known Indian traditions of life and hospitality. The 16th century Castle, situated in fortified walls, was converted to a hotel in 1991 by the ruling family. The Castle is still home to the ruling family who run it not as a hotel but as a ‘HOME’ where people can come and experience traditional Rajput hospitality.

In the afternoon we will take a walk to the local village , OR spend the afternoon at the Castle with Tips on Yoga and meditation ( Please ask your escort make arrangements ). Dinner and Overnight at The Hotel

Vacation Day 6: Bijaipur - Chittor- Udaipur  (Friday, October 31, 2025)
UdaipurAfter breakfast, we will visit the 7th century city of Chittorgarh, also called Chittaur, which evokes memories of great heroism and sacrifice by Rajput men and women in the intermittent battles that they had to fight against Muslim invaders. Allaudin Khilji who coveted Queen Padmini of Chittaur, invaded the city in 1303 A.D. Queen Padmini and the women of the court sacrificed themselves in a pyre of fire rather than submit to anybody. This supreme sacrifice has been called 'Jauhar' and epitomizes the fiery spirit of the Rajputs of the day. The honey-colored Fort is built on a hilltop and within are the remains of many temples and monuments. The 15th-century, 9-story Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory) is built from red sandstone and white marble. We will continue to travel west for about 2½ hours to Udaipur. Also known as the Venice of the East, Udaipur2Udaipur is an enchanting city. From the lakes in the midst of the sandy terrain to the green forested hills where wildlife still abounds, the surprises are endless. late afternoon, take a short boat ride and proceed to the old city for a walk around the bazaars, shops, shops and havelis (mansions) before arriving at Bagore Haveli for a performance of local dances and music.

Vacation Day 7: Udaipur (Saturday, November 1, 2025)
Udaipur City PalaceIn the morning, we will visit the vast and exquisite City Palace of the Maharana, in which amber, jade, and colored glass give the palace a sparkling yet ethereal quality. The City Palace was built concurrently with the establishment of Udaipur city by Maharana Udai Singh II and his successor Maharanas over a period of the next 400 years. The Maharanas lived and administered their kingdom from this palace, thereby making the palace complex an important historic landmark.

Vacation Day 9: Kumbalgarh - Pushkar (Monday, November 3, 2025)
pushkar camel fairAfter breakfast, we will travel north for about 5 hours to the holy city of Pushkar. One of Hinduism’s holy cities associated with Lord Brahma, Pushkar, is in the center-east part of Rajasthan, on the western side of the Aravalli mountains, and is centuries old, having been mentioned in ancient texts like the Ramanaya, Mahabharata,Mahabharat and Puranas, as well as in many other texts dated to the 1st millennium.
Pushkar comes alive during the month of Kartik of the Hindu calendar (corresponding to October or November), when the full moon night is celebrated in honor of the day when God incarnated as the fish form to save humanity from destruction by a deluge.  For about 10 days prior to the full moon, thousands gather around the lake at Pushkar in a dazzling display of colors and a frenzied burst of activity. Most people associate the Pushkar Fair with the world's largest camel fair, but it is much more than that; it is an unparalleled experience of the vibrancy of the entire state of Rajasthan in one place.A staggering number of camels travel their way across the golden sands of Rajasthan to collect Pushkar Lakeat Pushkar for the week-long fair devoted to them. Numerous cows and sheep also come to the animal fair, and completing the scene are thousands of men, women, and children who come with their beasts, suddenly inhabiting the barren plain, with the camel providing the backdrop, proving a scene right in Biblical Times. The contrast to the dull desert landscape is the riot of colors: the large gaudy turbans of the males and the loud hues of the pleated ghagaras (ankle-length skirts) of the women, with bangles by the armful, bejeweled from head to toe, add charm and zest to occasion. Lunch at the hotel, and in the evening, walk through the colorful area and experience the joie de vivre of the occasion. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Vacation Day 10: Pushkar - Jaipur (Tuesday, November 4, 2025)
Pink CityOn our day in Pushkar, we will visit the campsites, take a camel ride, walk through the colorful bazaars, and see and participate in the festivities. In the afternoon, we will continue north-east for 3 hours to Jaipur. The rose-pink capital of Rajasthan, aptly called the'pink city’, is surrounded on all sides by rugged hills. The city was founded in 1727 by the astronomer-king, Sawai Jai Singh II, and built according to the Shilpa Shastra, the ancient Hindu treatise on architecture and sculpture. It is a walled city of seven rectangular blocks, with the Maharajah's palace located in the center amidst lovely gardens. In the evening, take an e-rickshaw ride through the old city bazaars and markets. See the Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, a major Rajput landmark built in 1799. This five-story building in the old city is a pink sandstone masterpiece with semi-octagonal and delicately honeycombed windows. The monument was originally conceived to enable ladies of the royal household to watch the city’s daily life and special events in absolute privacy.

Vacation Day 11: Jaipur (Wednesday, November 5, 2025)
Birla TempleIn the morning, we will visit Jantar Mantar, an observatory that is equipped with instruments of astonishing size and precision, including a 90-foot-high sundial. Also, we will visit the City Palace, which is the royal residence of the erstwhile King of Jaipur. It houses a museum with a superb collection of Rajasthani costumes, armory from the Mughal and Rajput eras, weaponry, and swords of different shapes and sizes, some with ornamental handles inlaid with enamel, embellished with jewels, and encased in magnificent scabbards. Drive past Moti-Doongri Palace, a privately owned hilltop fort built like a Scottish castle, to Ram Niwas Gardens and the architecturally impressive Albert Hall before returning to the hotel with the afternoon free for independent activities. In the late afternoon, take a walk in the walled city’s bazaars before going to the Birla Temple at dusk for the Aarti ceremony with an overnight stay at the hotel.

Vacation Day 12: Jaipur- Amber - Delhi - End of Tour (Thusday, November 6, 2025)
Fort of Amber2
Late in the morning, at 11 a.m., we will visit the Fort of Amber, a superb example of Rajput architecture. Located high on a hill with large ramparts and a series of gates and cobbled paths,. The Fort’s construction started in 1592 by Raja Man Singh, the Rajput Commander of Akbar’s army. It was later extended and completed by Jai Singh. Laid out on four levels, the buildings inside are constructed of red sandstone and marble and include the Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors) and the Sukh Niwas, which was “air-conditioned“ by making wind blow over a water cascade.Note: The approach to Amber is best on Elephant Back, but that can mean queuing up and a wait of more than an hour; we suggest taking Jeeps. Lunch at a local restaurant and continue north-east to Delhi, about 3 and a half hours to connect the flight home with rooms for washing and changing and dinner included at a hotel near the airport.

Trip Tips and What to Pack
for  India Vacations

Visas and Passports:

Visa affixed in a valid passport is required of all United States citizens wanting to enter India. The Indian Embassy has outsourced the processing of visa applications.

An India tourist visa has a validity of either 6 months, 5 years or 10 years. This is a multiple entry visa. Each entry has a limited duration of 6 months. This means that the maximum amount of time you can stay after entering the country is 6 months. Once you exit, you must wait for a period of 2 months before re-entering unless you obtain special permission.

The Embassy of India refers you to BLS International which has all the information on how to obtain a visa to India. Best Single Travel highly recommends hiring a visa company to obtain your visa.

Local Currency:

India Currency: The Rupee (INR). INR1 = 100 paise

Paper Denominations: INR500, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5

Coins: INR5, 2, 1 and 50, 25, 10 paise

Credit cards: Most large hotels, stores and restaurants will accept international credit cards but if you are planning to vacation in more remote areas or shop at local markets, do not count on credit cards for payment. If paper money in India is too torn, grubby or marked, merchants may not want to accept them.  The bills can be exchanged in major banks but it’s easier to ask for newer bills.

India Local Time:

India follows a single time zone, called the Indian Standard Time (IST). IST maintains a 30 minute offset from GMT. This means that when it is 12:00 GMT, it is 5:30am everywhere in India.

10.5 hours ahead of EST / 13.5 hours ahead of PST

Electric Plugs:

India uses 230 Volts, 50 Hz alternating current as the power source. Plugs and sockets have grounded / earthed 3 Pin connections (Type D) or ungrounded 2 pin connections (Type C).

But travel plug adapters do not change the voltage, so the electricity coming through the adapter will still be the same 110-120 volts the socket is supplying. If your appliance is from another part of the world, and it is built only for 220-240 volt electricity, or a Japanese appliance built for 100 volts, then a travel plug adapter by itself won't be sufficient. The voltage will have to be changed from 110-120 volts at the socket, to whatever voltage your appliance requires. This is accomplished with a voltage transformer.

Weather:

Climatic conditions vary considerably because of the size of the country. The coolest and driest time of the year is from December to February. If high temperatures aren’t a problem for you then travel during the months of March, April and May. While the monsoon rains in June and July provide a brief respite from summer heat, the humidity in the big cities in the summer months is usually unbearable for most tourists.

What to Pack for your India Vacation

It is very important to plan conservative yet light, airy clothing for vacations to India. While cities like Delhi and beach resort destinations may have a more casual dress code, it is still important to respect the local culture and dress accordingly.

Keep in mind when planning your India packing list: shoulders and knees should always be covered.

Shopping in India

Bustling bazaars with native handicrafts, and boutiques with brilliant textiles are found everywhere. Shopping in an Indian bazaar can be overwhelming, vendors will inundate you with options, prices and colors. Half the fun when buying goods in the bazaars is the bargaining .

Indian craftsman have been perfecting their art for centuries, passing down traditions from generation to generation with each town having its own speciality. Silks, spices, jewelry and many other Indian products have been traded, and merchants have travelled thousands of miles in order to make their purchases.

Souvenirs you will find hard to resist during your India vacation:

* Jewelery such as necklaces and anklets which can be made from gold, bronze, and silver.
* Incense sticks:  Scented with sandalwood or some other exotic aromas, these sticks will certainly add a touch of India to any home.
*Dried spices: Indian cuisine is all about the aromatic spices. Purchase spices and enjoy the taste of India long after your travels.
*Sandalwood is known for its distinctive aroma and its therapeutic properties.
*Handicrafts and Artifacts:  Handicrafts such as stoneware and silverware, brass, silver, and marble are easily found throughout India.
*Textiles:  Gorgeous prints and handiwork especially on women’s clothing.
*Tea:  India is home to world famous Darjeeling tea and one of the largest tea exporters in the world.

Local Foods

In western India, the desert cuisine is famous for its unique taste and varieties of food. Rajasthan and Gujarat are the states that represent the dessert flavor of Indian food. Here an immense variety of deals and aches (pickles/preserves) is used that simply substitutes the relative lack of fresh vegetables in these areas.
In Southern India, the people make great use of spices, fishes and coconuts, as most of them have coastal kitchens. The foods of Tamil Nadu use of tamarind is frequently made in order to impart sourness to the dishes. It simply distinguishes the Tamil Food from other cuisines.

Bali, Indonesia Vacations
Tips and What to Pack

Passport and Visas:

Indonesia has revoked visa-free travel for most foreign visitors. An easy to get visa on arrival costs US$35 for 30 days. Processing is relatively fast in Bali and those who cannot pay in US$ can change money on the spot at a money changer. If you do not have US currency it is recommended to get some prior to arriving in Bali to pay for your visa on arrival. Credit cards are not accepted.

The 30 day visa may be extended for a further 30 days by paying an additional US$35. You will have to leave Indonesia and return if you wish to stay longer than 60 days.

Once you have paid for and received your visa you will need to proceed to Immigration where your visa will be processed. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia, and you must have proof of onward passage (either return or through tickets).

Local Currency:

Bali, being part of Indonesia, uses the Indonesian currency, the Rupiah (abbreviated, Rp.) as its monetary unit.
Rupiah bills are issued in denominations of Rp 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000. Rupiah coins come in denominations of Rp 25, 50, 100, 500 and a new gold and silver Rp 1,000 coin.

Rupiahs are available through most banks in the United States and upon arrival in Bali. ATMs are available in Bali to withdraw rupiahs from your bank account but an international withdraw fee and transaction fees are charged on most ATM transactions.

An assortment of low denomination bills and coins are a must when exploring Bali, as cash is used for most transactions and businesses and cab drivers often expect the customer to provide exact change

Due to counterfeiting, Indonesian establishments that accept American money do not take bills that are worn, torn, defaced or issued prior to 2004, The US bills must be in mint condition.

Local Time:

Bali, Indonesia is in WITA - Central Indonesian Time and is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. 12 hours ahead of EST and 15 hours ahead of PST

Electric Plugs:

Bali’s electricity power supply operates at 220 volt, this is the same as Australia and many European countries. North America however, operates at 110-120 volt.

If you try to operate your 110 volt appliance on Bali’s 220v power chances are you will damage or burnout the appliance, not to mention the potential risk of causing a fire

Travel plug adapters do not change the voltage, so the electricity coming through the adapter will still be the same volts the socket is supplying. This is good enough for some cell phones but most cameras and hair devices need a voltage transformer or a convertor.

Weather:

Bali climate is very tropical with high temperatures throughout the year. The daytime temperature averages 85 degrees and the island receives a lot of sun. There are two distinctive seasons; dry season, from May till September, and wet seasons, from October till April. However, even during the middle of a wet monsoon, you can expect the sun to make an appearance during the afternoon.

Local Foods:

Real Balinese food is not readily available to tourists unless a Balinese family invites you to their home or to temple. Most restaurants do not serve authentic dishes due to the long preparation and it is best when served fresh. Balinese food is often very spicy.

Chicken is a popular dish used for Balinese ritual offerings. After being used for the offering, the chicken is cooked with chilies to be served as a dish.

Jajan Bantal is well-known all over Bali. The main ingredients of this snack are sticky rice, peas and fruits all wrapped in coconut leaf, tied with a rope and steamed.

Cambodia Singles Vacation

Country Information

Cambodia, located in the southwestern part of the Indochina peninsula has a land area of 181,035 square kilometers. Cambodia shares borders with Thailand, Lao and Vietnam and is bounded on the Southeast by the Gulf of Thailand.

The population of Cambodia today is about 10 million and about 90-95 percent of the people are Khmer ethnic, which is the official language. Thearavada Buddhism is the official religion in Cambodia which is practiced by 95 percent of the population.

Cambodia Visa

All travelers need a visa to visit Cambodia except for the nationals of Indonesia, Laos, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The Cambodia visa should be applied for within 90 days of departure. The processing time is approximately 3 business days. E-Visa, enables you to apply for a Cambodia tourist visa online. Just complete the online application form and pay with your credit card. After receiving your Visa through email, print it out and bring it along with you on your Cambodia vacation.

You can also get your visa on arrival at the international airports. Your passport must be valid for at least four months from the expiration date and you will need one recent photograph (4 x 6). The tourist visa is $20.

Weather

The climate can generally be described as tropical. As the country is affected by monsoon, it is hot and humid with an average temperature around 27.C (80.F). There are two distinct seasons: the Rainy Season and the Dry Season. However, the Dry Season is divided into two sub-seasons, cool and hot.

Local Currency

US dollars are more commonly used than the Cambodian Riel and even the Thai Baht is acceptable in many places. Most hotels and many restaurants and shops set their prices in dollars. Some small transactions are done in Riel.

All ATMs in Cambodia dispense US dollars. Credit cards are accepted in all major hotels and stores but most vendors at the markets only take cash.

It’s a good idea to check that any big dollar bills you take or accept as change does not have any small tears or look too tatty, as no-one will accept them in Cambodia.

Local Time

Cambodia Standard Time is 7 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 12 hours ahead of EST / 15 hours ahead of PST

Electric Plugs

Voltage: 230 V; Plugs A & C* (Some outlets are a combination of type A and C and can accept either type plug. Plug G may be found in some hotels.) You will need a voltage converter, and plug adapter in order to use U.S. appliances.

What to Pack for Your Vacation

Since Cambodia is a hot and humid tropical climate, casual lightweight clothing is best. Clothing made from natural fibers is the best option.

One suitcase and an overnight bag are allowed – please check with individual airlines for weight limits.

Insect repellent is the only way to be sure of protection against mosquito borne diseases.

Shopping in Cambodia

Be prepared to bargain, which is best done with small U.S. bills. There are a great many shopping markets in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh where you can buy cheap souvenirs to expensive gems and jewellery, and everything in between.

Encouraged by the government and aid organizations, local people are rediscovering their natural talent as weavers and craftsmen. You can purchase purses and handbags, clothing, furnishings, paintings and many other items.including sculptures, small statues, Buddha figures, heads and apsaras.

Local Foods

Cambodia food is closely related to the cuisines of neighboring Thailand and Laos and, to a lesser extent, Vietnam, but there are some distinct local dishes. The overall consensus is that Khmer cooking is like Thai without spicy. Curries, stir fried vegetable, rice, noodles and soups are staples of the Khmer diet.

Rice is the principal staple and most Cambodian dishes are cooked in a wok, known locally as a chhnang khteak. The local beers are Angkor, Phnom Penh, Kingdom and Cambodia.

Once again, snorkelling enthusiasts are amply catered for, whilst fishing rods and bait are provided for the eager fisherman.
Monkey IslandNext stop on the tour is the island of Koh Ped literally translated as Duck Island, although there is not a duck in sight there are monkeys everywhere. Adventure Sailing Vacations For Singles and Solo travelers
Ages - 20's 30's 40's, 50's and 60's

Singles Adventure Sailing Vacations

The "Adventure" tag applies not only to the fun, freedom and excitement of being out on the ocean on your own yacht, but also to the get-involved approach, where everyone is part of a real "crew" - not just passengers to be ferried about according to some strict itinerary, or the whim of the captain.

There's no obligation to pull on ropes if you don't want to - but if you'd like to learn more about sailing, they would love to teach you. For already experienced sailors - hey, great ! - come take the helm and tweak the sails as much as you like ! Though they have provisional itineraries, they are always changeable according to the preferences of the group - and of course, the whims of the wind gods ! The singles trips are as flexible and laid-back as possible; as fun and hedonistic as the islands themselves.

Everything on board is included.. These are small sailing yachts - 8 singles capacity - usually a few yachts will sail together.

Greece - Turkey /  Turkey - Greece

Daytime temps in early & late season (May, Oct) would be around mid 60sC; midsummer max temperatures would be around mid/high 80s. The humidity is very low, so it rarely feels TOO hot, even in Aug (though it is a good plan to stay out of cities and be out on the water then!) Another chance to experience two countries in one trip - we'll be starting in Turkey and exploring her lovely Turquoise Coast for the first week... then sailing north to our favorite little Greek islands for the second week of adventures!

Zante, Greece

The Zante Cruise itinerary is subject to change dependent on weather conditions, difficulties at docking or unforeseen circumstances. This decision will be made solely at your captain’s discretion, based on the safety of the group and the ship. Travel insurance is highly recommended before departing for a Greece sailing trip.

Trip Tips and What To Pack for Your
Switzerland Vacation

Visa:

All travelers will need a passport valid for at least 90 days following your departure date from Switzerland. Most destinations, including Switzerland, require that you have adequate un-used pages in your passport, allowing for any necessary stamps upon arrival and departure. We recommend that you have at least two free pages in Visas section of your passport before any international travel. Require that you have adequate un-used pages in your passport, allowing for any necessary stamps upon arrival and departure. We recommend that you have at least two free pages in Visas section of your passport before any international travel. U.S. citizens can get extra passport pages added to their passports as fast as within 24 hours.

Money:

Switzerland is not part of the EU and does not use the Euro as currency. The currency we have here is the Swiss Frank (abbreviated sometimes as SFr, sometimes as CHF). Only Liechtenstein uses the same currency. Euros can be used only in larger towns and tourist areas and then the exchange the shops offer is bad and you will get Swiss Francs back

Euros can be used only in larger towns and tourist areas and then the exchange the shops offer is bad and you will get Swiss Francs back. It is better to get some Franks and use them. Finding a bank is no problem in Switzerland, also there are innumerable ATMs. Most ATMs also give out Euros, by the way. The coins: 5 Rapped (cents), these are golden, the rest is silver10 Rappen, 20 Rappen, 50 Rappen (very small easily confused with the 10 cents), 1 Frank, (only slightly bigger than the 20 Rappen) 2 Franks, 5 Franks (these coins are huge and heavy).

Time:

Switzerland is in Central European Time (CET) and is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

Switzerland started Daylight Saving Time on Sunday March 31, 2013 at 2:00 AM local time. Switzerland ends Daylight Saving Time on Sunday October 27, 2013 at 3:00 AM local time.

Electric Plugs

The voltage in Switzerland, as in most of Europe, is 230V/50 Hz Switzerland uses type C (2-pin) and Type J (3-pin) plugs (Type C 2-pin plugs also fit J sockets). Check the list in the link to see which other countries use the same plugs, and whether you will need an adapter to run your appliances from a Swiss socket.

Weather

Switzerland has a temperate climate in the populated areas, but mountain peaks in the alps are buried under eternal ice and snow. On the southern side of the alps the climate is a little bit warmer than in the north, but the really important thing to consider is that the alps form a barrier that separates two completely different aspect of a weather situation. The wettest conditions persist in the high Alps and in the Ticino canton which has much sun yet heavy bursts of rain from time to time. Precipitation tends to be spread moderately throughout the year with a peak in summer. Autumn is the driest season, winter receives less precipitation than summer, yet the weather patterns in Switzerland are not in a stable climate system and can be variable from year to year with no strict and predictable periods

Shopping

Shopping in Switzerland is a delight. The question most asked is, what do you buy in Switzerland? Or rather, what is Switzerland famous for?

The Country is known for various things. It is known for its mount watering chocolates. It is home to the famous Lind. It is great for Cheese - all kinds.

Of course, one of the best place to buy the famous Swiss watches is Bunchier with 15 stores throughout Switzerland. In 1888, opened the first specialty shop offering watches and jewelry in Luzern, Switzerland, laying the foundation stone for a successful family business.

Local Foods

There are many different places to go out to eat in Switzerland. It starts with fast food, such as burger, fish and chips etc., continues with self service restaurants and what people in the U.S. use to call a family restaurant where you get all the regular menus and ends with spectacular (and very expensive) restaurants, where to eat is supposed to be an "experience" Food is quite expensive in Switzerland, at least compared to most European countries and especially compared to the U.S. If you go to a fast food place, you may easily spend up to CHF 10 for a burger.

Common menus include a great variety of pasta, potatoes prepared in many different ways, vegetables, meat (veal, beef, pork, chicken and even horse), fish (mainly fresh water fish), but also sea food. Vegetarian menus have become more popular during the last few years, most restaurants provide at least one vegetarian menu as a main course. In addition, salad is very popular as well. The most important part of course is desert. This includes cheese, but even more important any flavor of cakes or cookies.
