Highlights of Turkey Singles Vacation Itinerary

Day 1:   Arrive Istanbul, Turkey
As we say in Turkey, HOS GELDINIZ, Welcome to Turkey! Our journey begins in Istanbul, the only city in the world situated on two continents. Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul - its three names span more than 2600 years, nearly 1600 of them as the capital of two of the greatest empires the world has known, Byzantine and Ottoman.

Upon arrival at the Istanbul (IST) airport you will be met and transferred to our hotel. Meet our local guide at 7:00pm for an optional dinner and a short briefing about the tour.

Vacation Day 2: Istanbul Sightseeing
TTurkey Topkapi PalaceThis will be a full day of exploring the historical sites of Istanbul. Visit the Topkapi Palace, the residence and leadership center of the Sultans during the Ottoman Empire. Built in 1459-1465 shortly after the conquest of Constantinople, see the Treasury that includes the Topkapi Dagger, the 86 carat Spoon Maker's Diamond, and the jewel encased bones of St. John the Baptist's skull and arm bone.

Hagia Sophia was, for nearly a thousand years, the largest enclosed space in the world. Built in the 6th century, it began as the central church of the Byzantines, later a mosque under the Ottomans, and today is a museum in reverence to both religions.

The Blue Mosque, built 1616, is the only mosque in
Turkey Blue MosqueTurkey with six minarets. Due to its magnificent hand-dyed blue, green and white tiles it has been named the "Blue Mosque". Outside is the Hippodrome, ancient site where chariot races and the center of Byzantine civic life was held. Of the ornaments which once decorated it, only three remain: The Obelisk of Theodosius, the bronze Serpentine Column, and the Column of Constantine.

Our tour will end at the Grand Bazaar and give you free time to explore and get in some souvenir shopping.

Enjoy our Welcome Dinner at a local Turkish restaurant

Vacation Day 3: Istanbul - Kusadasi
Turkey EphesusEarly morning transfer to the airport for our flight to Izmir. Upon arrival we will travel to Ephesus to begin our full day tour. The ancient city of Ephesus is the best preserved classical city of the Eastern Mediterranean. Once an ancient Greek city and one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League, it was for many years the second largest city of the Roman Empire; ranking behind Rome. Ephesus had a population of more than 250,000 in the 1st century BC, which also made it the second largest city in the world. The city was famed for the Temple of Artemis (550 BC), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Impressive structures we will see include the Library of Celsus, Temple of Hadrian, Theatre and Odeon.

We also visit the House of the House of The Virgin Mary is where it is believed St. Mary came to live with St. John in the last years of her life.

Then we depart Ephesus and travel to Kusadasi to check into our hotel. Tonight walk around Kusadasi and have dinner (optional)

Vacation Day 4: Kusadasi to Pamukkale
Turkey PamukkaleAfter breakfast we depart Kusadasi and travel to Pamukkale, which means cotton castle in Turkish. Today it is a mineral-bath spa. Hot calcium-laden waters spring from the earth and cascade over a cliff, as the waters cool they form dramatic travertines of hard, brilliantly white calcium that form pools.

We stop at the ancient city of Hierapolis, whose name means "sacred city," and believed by the ancients to have been founded by the god Apollo. Today, Hierapolis is a World Heritage Site with interesting Classical ruins, a thermal Sacred Pool in which you can swim with ancient artifacts and a view of the spectacular white terraces of Pamukkale.

After our tour we check into our hotel and have time to relax and enjoy a nice dinner before we get a good night's sleep.

Turkey Mevlana Museum Vacation Day 5: Pamukkale to Cappadocia
After breakfast the group will depart from Pamukkale and drive to Cappadocia, on the way we will stop and visit (unguided) Mevlana Museum in Konya. Mevlana Museum is a holy site for Muslims because it is the former lodging place for the whirling dervishes. The architecture and turquoise tiles are a beautiful site for all.

Then we continue on to Cappadocia andcheck it to the group's hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure.

Vacation Day 6: Cappadocia
Today will be spend walking through an underground city where ancient people once fled for their lives escaping the Arab invaders, wandering through Ihlara Gorge and spending time in an Anatolian village.

Ihlara Gorge Underground City of Derinkuyu--Gradually stroll your way down into the depths of the earth in this ancient underground city that has 18-20 floors as deep as 120 feet below the ground. Don’t worry, you will only go down to the 8th floor.

Ihlara Gorge, an oasis in the middle of the Anatolian plain, with beautiful greenery and flowing river. See ancient monasteries complete with pigeon holes cut into the cliffs by the monks. They used these pigeons as messengers to communicate with nearby monks.

Traditional Anatolian villages--The head-scarved women out at work in the fields from sun up until sun-down, and the mustached, vest-wearing men hard at work playing cards in the coffee shops. You will get time to stroll in such a village and see the average Turkish villager at work...or play.

Turkey CappadociaVacation Day 7: Cappadocia
We will visit the world heritage site of Goreme Open-Air Museum, a cluster of rock cut Byzantine churches, chapels and monasteries which include some wonderful 11th and 12th century frescoes on the cave walls.

Devrent Valley, also known as "the pink valley" because of the color of it’s soil. This is a great place to wander around and look at the magical rock formations indicative to Cappadocia. The Fairy Chimneys, formed during volcanic eruptions reach at times 120 feet in height, they are conical in shape and have a "hat" top to them.

Uchisar Castle is two gigantic rocks surrounded by smaller rocks that form a natural fortress with towers. These formations were inhabited during both the Byzantine and Ottoman times. We can climb and explore the different caves and rooms throughout the fortress, experiencing first-hand what it must have been like to hide in these fortified rocks, waiting for the ancient enemy to pass by or give up.

After the tour we travel to Nevsehir Airport for the 1 hour flight back to Istanbul, Upon arrival we transfer to your hotel for a quick check-in. Enjoy your farewell dinner at a local a restaurant.

Vacation Day 8: Depart Istanbul, Turkey
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home or to Greece for the next part of your vacation. Say goodbye to all your new friends as it is the end of another great singles vacation.
