Thailand-to-Malaysia Singles Sailing Adventure

This is an example of a popular itinerary on our Thailand-to-Malaysia trips. However, no two trips are ever exactly the same; one of the greatest things about being on a sailboat is the flexibility to change our minds and our route to suit personal preferences, prevailing wind conditions, etc. The start and finish points are fixed, of course but all else is changeable according to the whims of the wind gods and those on board !

A typical itinerary from Phuket to Langkawi
Day One

Morning rendezvous in Phuket. As soon as our checkout formalities are completed, we'll be sailing north - to the weird and wonderful "seascapes" of Phang-Nga bay!

This bay feels like sailing into some sci-fi movie set; the limestone formations are so sheer and gravity-defying. Our destination for the evening is Ko Hong. "hong" being the word for "sea cave". The entrance to these hongs is usually a well-hidden little crevice in the cliff-face; a narrow tunnel opening up into an awe-inspiring oasis on the interior. Perfect for kayak expeditions!

Happy hour with the best pina coladas in the Andaman! - followed by our very own Thai chefs' gourmet dinner on board; an amazing array of tongue-tingling dishes

Day Two

A relaxed morning's cruise southwards again, past more impossibly-balanced rocks, cliffs & islands. There is another hong to explore en route, paddling through a dramatic, mangrove-lined stream which winds its way inside a huge crevice in the island.

For the evening, we'll anchor at the famous Railey Beach, near Krabi. Sheer, palm-covered mountains rising vertically from the ocean, it's a well-known spot for those who like to scare themselves silly scaling these cliffs. There are even beginner's rock-climbing opportunities, for any adrenalin-addicts amongst us! Dinner ashore, there's dozens of fun little beach bars and restaurants.

Day Three

Chance to visit Tiger Cave and Temple , a 30 minute minibus ride inland. This place is not as overtly dramatic and ornate as some of the more well-known Thai wats; what attracts us is it's deeply spiritual, calm Buddhist ambiance. This is not a "tourist destination" - it's a place that the locals visit to pay their respects to the monk community there. For the energetic, there is a steep climb to a stunning viewpoint, a huge Buddha keeping an eye on us mere mortals below; for those who prefer to take it easier (and cooler!), there is a shady hike through an enormous and ancient forest. It's also home to a troop of very mischievous monkeys, watch out for your drinks and snacks, they're fast !

Just around the corner from Railey beach is the little town of Ao Nang - a great place to do a little shopping. There'll be a couple of hours ashore here - then it's a short hop to Chicken Island. A quiet, tranquil contrast to the days activities, and usually a beautiful sunset to accompany our infamous Pina Coladas! It's also our first great snorkelling spot, lots of coral and tropical fish to swim amongst.

Day Five
An early morning start, and a short hop to Phi Phi Li (Little Phi Phi), whose recent claim-to-fame is the Leonardo di Caprio movie "The Beach" . It's a spectacular little island - dramatic limestone cliffs, pure white sands and unbelievably bright turquoise waters. It's become crazily busy with daytrip boats during the day... hence we arrive late in the afternoon, leave early in the morning and inbetween, we have this stunning little spot all to ourselves! (OK, perhaps a few other yachties too!)

Well off the main tourist track, this is the place to go elephant-trekking if the idea appeals to you! The ride takes you way back into the tropical forest behind the beach, one could be hundreds of miles (and year!) from so-called civilisation. A hike through a babbling stream to a mini-waterfall is a great way to cool off, halfway through the ride. For the adventurous amongst us, the guides will let you ride on the elephant's head, the way they do... not just sit in the "passenger basket"!

Day Six

Our breakfast stop for the next day, we have named The Lost Lagoon - an old pirate hangout. To find it, we swim through a winding, pitch-black sea tunnel (it's ok, we do have waterproof lights!). It's a spooky and thoroughly exciting feeling especially when one emerges the other end into a "Lost World" in the center of the island.

Unfortunately, the local daytrip boats from Phi Phi have now discovered this spot too - but as long as we get there early in the morning, we have it all to ourselves!

The destination for the afternoon is Charlie Beach, on Ko Muk - one of our favourite little beach hangouts. Somewhat smaller than Ko Lanta, but with a very cosy little beach bar and great BBQ restaurant. Cocktails on the beach at sunset, it doesn't get any more romantic than this !

Day Seven

The further south we sail, the further away from any kind of "tourist development" - and today's islands are right out in the middle of nowhere! A Marine National Park, Rok Nok is a protected wildlife habitat. An amazing array of coral gardens and brightly-coloured fish are literally right underneath the boat - one could snorkel for hours in the tropically warm waters! For our experienced divers, there's a chance to put tanks on and explore further underwater too.

Day Eight
This is our long sail day - Wind Gods willing, we should have a lovely 6hrs or so downwind sailing ! Our destination is the Butang group of islands. Part of the Tarutao Marine National Park, these islands have the most wonderfully clear water and beautiful coral gardens. Ko Adang is our stop for the night - more fantastic snorkelling and a deserted tropical beach completely to ourselves.

Day Nine

A morning to explore some more of that ever-changing underwater scenery. under the water as well as above. It's also a very fun place to take out the kayaks and explore along the rocks and crevices of the beach.

Some time after lunch, we'll head out for our next stop, a short distance to Ko Lipe - a long sandy beach which is home to a little community with a distinct "flower-power" ambiance! The local village, about 15mins walk through the island is still not at all "developed" - wooden huts, a great little schoolhouse, and kids who still smile and giggle if you take their photo (and love to see themselves on a digital camera screen!)

 Day Ten

A lazy morning, a final swim or two... and then we're off to Langkawi !

Our mooring is at Telaga Harbour - a cosy, friendly little place, yet with all the handy facilities of an upmarket marina.

We'll do our customs paperwork this afternoon - whilst the skipper is busy with bureaucracy, there's a few fun things to do close to the marina. Langkawi's amazing cable car ride is just 5 mins away - a very adrenelin-inspiring trip to the top of the highest mountain on the island! For any shopping addicts, the main town of Kuah is about 30 mins away, lots of great bargains to be hunted down. For anyone wishing to stay longer in Langkawi, we can highly recommend the Mutiara Bay hotel, just 5mins from the marina , where many of our single sailors have stayed and loved!

Day Eleven

Disembarkation is at 9am as this wonderful sailing vacation ends.

Ongoing connection info: Telaga Harbour is about 10 mins from the international airport of Langkawi. The main town and ferry port of Kuah is in the south of the island, about 30mins taxi ride away. There are frequent ferries to the Thai mainland (Satun), to Penang and several other places in Malaysia.

The Bottom Line: What will my vacation cost?

Our philosophy is very simple; our costs are as inclusive as we can sensibly make them. We figure most people would prefer to know ahead of time what the total vacation cost is; not have to worry about little additional surprises along the way!

On our Adventure Sailing trips, once you get on the boat, everything on board is covered. We provide provisions for breakfasts, lunches, drinks (yes, that includes open bar - local liquors, beer & wine). The only thing we don't include is dinners - the local taverna experience ashore is much too much fun to miss!

So unlike the usual yacht charter in the Med - there's no unexpected extras to catch you out halfway ("Oh, you didn't realise how much this marina costs?" or "That'll be another 300 euros for the fuel bill, thank you very much!" ).

With the more usual bareboat-plus-skipper arrangement, you're up for everything else - fuel, water, mooring, local taxes, food, on board bar bills - even the skipper's food and drink!

Our Singles Sailing vacation philosophy is that nasty $$ surprises don't do anything for a relaxing vacation - and we emphatically don't work that way. We'd prefer you to eat, drink and be merry - without worrying how much extra it will cost!

Our sailing vacations include:
  • Breakfasts
  • Lunches
  • Soft drinks
  • Open bar (local beers, wines & liquors)
  • Skipper
  • Informal sailing instruction if desired
  • Fuel
  • Water
  • Mooring fees
  • Security deposit
Vacations do not include:
  • Dinners ashore
  • Transport to and from the boats - airfares, transfers
  • Travel Protection
  • Personal visas (when applicable)

Sailing in the “Land of Smiles”

Singles Sailing Adventure Vacations Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Rendezvous is at 11am at Boat Lagoon – the main marina on Phuket. As soon as everyone is all aboard and boat briefings done - it’s off north to the weird and wonderful seascapes of Phang-Nga bay. It feels like sailing into some sci-fi movie set; the limestone formations are so sheer and gravity-defying. Our destination for the evening is Ko Hong ( “hong” = “sea cave”), where we can kayak and swim to explore before that most important evening ritual – Happy Hour! This will also be our first dinner aboard the yacht – with 360 water views and our own private chef, it’s not too bad a restaurant.. :>

Day 2

A relaxed morning’s cruise southwards again, past more impossibly-balanced rocks, cliffs & islands – lunchtime stop at Bamboo island. Swim, eat, swim (a familiar pattern-to-be! ) - then head off for an evening at the famous (and totally stunning) Railey Beach. Sheer, palm-covered mountains rising vertically from the ocean, it’s a well-known spot for those who like to scare themselves silly scaling these cliffs. There are even beginner’s rock-climbing opportunities, for any adrenalin-addicts amongst us! Dinner ashore, there’s dozens of fun little beach bars and restaurants.

Day 3

The next morning, there is chance to visit Tiger Cave and Temple, a 30 minute minibus ride inland. This place is not as overtly dramatic and ornate as some of the more well-known Thai wats; what attracts us is it’s deeply spiritual, calm Buddhist ambiance. This is not a “tourist destination” - it’s a place that the locals visit to pay their respects to the monk community there. For the energetic, there is a steep climb to a stunning viewpoint, a huge Buddha keeping an eye on us mere mortals below; for those who prefer to take it easier (and cooler!), there is a shady hike through an enormous and ancient forest. It’s also home to a troop of very mischievous monkeys, watch out for your drinks and snacks, they’re fast !

Just around the corner from Railey beach is the little town of Ao Nang – a great place to do a little shopping. There’ll be a couple of hours ashore here – then it’s a short hop to Chicken Island. A quiet, tranquil contrast to the day’s activities, and usually a beautiful sunset to accompany our infamous Pina Coladas! It’s also our first great snorkelling spot, lots of coral and tropical fish to swim amongst.

Day 4

A lovely downwind sail to Ko Lanta – a beautiful long, white sandy beach with which has happily not yet made it onto the main tourist map! Home of the infamous Why Not Bar, which somehow seems to exert an irresistible magnetic force on our seascape sailors… they seem unable to escape the decadent floor cushions and their interesting Thai version of reggae!

Being off the main tourist track, this is the best place we have found to go elephant trekking ! Heading way into the “jungle”, you even get chance to ride the elephants “bareback” – or bare-head, we should say ! - if you want.

Day 5

A leisurely start to the morning, as it’s a short trip to our next destination of Ko Muk. If the weather is sufficiently calm, there’s a great lunchtime snorkeling spot en route. By early afternoon, we’ll be anchored at “Charlie Beach” – another off-the-beaten track little spot, with a fantastic beach barbie right on the waterfront! A feast fit for a king or three, on a pauper’s budget… it’s pretty amazing fare. Also amazing are the sunsets over the water…. this is what tropical sailing is all about !

Day 6

A very early start – yes, we are talking sunrise here ! We have a truly stunning spot to visit; the Lost Lagoon of Ko Muk. To find it, we have to swim through a totally pitch-black sea tunnel (it’s ok, we do have flashlights!). It’s a spooky and thoroughly exciting feeling – especially when one emerges the other end into a ‘Lost World’ in the center of the island !

Unfortunately, the local daytrip boats from Phi Phi have now discovered this spot too - but we have it all to ourselves in the early morning hours before they arrive… !

As soon as they do – we’re off ! A beam reach to the Rok Nok islands – a national marine park, teeming with multi-coloured fish & coral gardens. This is one of the most amazing snorkelling grounds in the area; and for our experienced scuba divers, there are some impressive dropoffs too.

Once the main heat of the day dies down, there is great hike up to the island’s peak – and watch out, There Be Dragons !! OK, so not really….they are just monitor lizards, but pretty big and impressive-looking!

Day 7

Early start the next day to get to Phi Phi island – one of the livelier spots ! It’s a fun contrast to all those quiet tropical islands – chance to do some great bargain-hunting, another of those muscle-melting Thai massages, and lots of very decadent, fruit-filled cocktails! It’s also a top spot for a night on the town; great music and much dancing…

Day 8

We’ll be spending most of the next day in Phi Phi - time for more shopping or Thai massages to recover from the night’s celebrations. Then later in the afternoon, we’ll be setting sail for Phi Phi Li ( “Little Phi Phi”), whose recent claim-to-fame is the Leonardo di Caprio movie “The Beach” . It’s a spectacular little island - it’s dramatic limestone cliffs, pure white sands and unbelievably pale turquoise waters are made for picture postcards. And being there late in the afternoon/early next morning, we can totally escape the daytrippers, and have the place just about to ourselves…

Day 9

As soon as the day trip boats arrive – we’ll be off. “Pearl Island” is our destination; a tiny island surrounded with coral and those white sand beaches – and home to – yes, you guessed it – a pearl farm! Best to leave that plastic on the boat… J

Day 10

Our final destination will be either Boat Lagoon again if tides are favourable; if not, we will end in one of the bays on the south of Phuket. Neither place is very far from anywhere, Phuket not being exactly a large island!

Day 11

Disembark 9am Vacation ends.

Sailing Vacation In Greece

A typical one week sailing vacation itinerary

This is an example of a popular sailing vacation itinerary on our 1wk Greek trips.

Day One

Embark 11am in Lakki (main harbour on Leros). After boat briefing, unpacking, and generally getting comfortable with the yacht, we'll set sail for Lipsos - island of the 42 blue-domed churches. It is the perfect introduction to "traditional Greece"; a small, untouristy village, with an unruly array of whitewashed buildings scattered around the bay. The vivid streaks of traditional blue trim and the blazing bougainvillea pinks & purples make it a real photographers' dream!

To cool off, there is a lovely little sandy beach, 5mins walk over the hill from where we moor the boats, and a great hike out to the headland with spectacular views out to sea.

If conditions are calm, we may be able to visit Macro Nisi for a swim stop en route. It's a secluded little anchorage with sheer-sided cliffs, which have been known to entice the braver (or more foolhardy !) amongst us to throw caution to the wind and leap off them ! For those more inclined to be adventurous in the water, there's a very cool, semi-submerged tunnel through the cliffs through which one can snorkel, emerging in little cave on the other side of the island.
Day Two
Early morning sail to Marathi - a truly tiny little island with a sandy, horseshoe-shaped beach, beautiful water to swim and snorkel in; a totally tranquil and peaceful spot. If you could paint a picture of the perfect, idyllic island retreat, Marathi would be it. There are just two families living here; wonderfully friendly and hospitable people. The food is incredible too !! This place is a magical balm for the stressed-out city-living soul...so much so that it's often been hard to persuade people that, really, we should leave, there are other islands to visit ! Sail time, approx 3hrs.

Day Three
Sail to Patmos - an early start to make the most of exploring the famous Monastery Island, where St John was inspired by visions to write the Book of Revelations. The 10th century monastery (built by Crusader Knights) reigns over the island, still an active and influential part of daily life here. The village that lies at the foot of the monastery is everyone's romantic image of a Greek village; narrow winding alleyways scarcely wide enough for a skinny donkey! - cats sunning themselves on whitewashed streets, old ladies in black collecting fresh bread from the bakery in the morning. It's well worth an early rise to get up there in the dawn hours; the old ladies will look at you in faint amazement that a foreigner should find their way up there at such a time; if you can remember enough of our Greek lessons to say "kalimera!" (good morning), they'll give you a huge smile and a "kalimera-sas" back (good morning to you too) ! (Note: that's "kali-MER-a", not "calamari" :> ).

The island's attractions are not solely for culture/history buffs, however - there are dozens of beautiful little beaches and bays to explore, and the greatest milkshakes and homemade pies on our favourite "Quiche Beach". For the more adventurous, you can take a 45 min hike along a little-known goat path to the island's unofficial "nudey beach"!

Day Four
Sail for Pandeli , a beautiful little bay on the east side of Leros. This is one of the prettiest anchorages to sail into you can imagine; a horseshoe-shaped bay with traditional blue-and-white houses scattered down the hillside. An 11th century fortress towers over the bay, and our favourite little beach tavernas are just 2 mins swim from the boat. Try sitting and watching the moon rise from one of these tavernas, boat in the foreground, the lapping of waves almost at your feet - it's a total "Shirley Valentine" scene !

For those with more energy to burn off later, there is the infamous Savana Bar, a very idiosyncratic little local hangout, where we often end up dancing the night away till the wee small hours! Another great island to rent scooters and explore.

Day Five
A leisurely morning in Pandeli; time to hike up to the fortress and get some stunning panoramic shots from the island's highest vantage point; or perhaps just a cooling swim from boat to taverna, to recover from that dangerous Savana Bar place!

Around midday, we'll set off for Vathi ; a relaxing downwind sail of about 3hrs. Vathi is a dramatic little spot; a well-hidden and very narrow fjord-like entrance, opening up into a tiny fishing village at the head of the bay. It boasts one main street and a collection of houses scattered into the valley; an unexpected patch of lush vegetation on an otherwise very dry and arid-looking island. Vathi is the only place on the entire island that is lucky enough to have it's own spring water supply, and they use it carefully to cultivate citrus fruits, figs, grapes and anything else that can be persuaded to grow.

It's also the home of Poppy's taverna - one of our "adopted families", where momma makes the best homemade dolmades (stuffed grapeleaves) you'll ever taste in your life, and the swordfish steaks are out of this world !

Day Six
Another leisurely start, waking up to the goatbells echoing around the surrounding hills! We'll head off around mid-morning, and sail for the little island of Pserimos , where we'll anchor for lunch, and the chance to snorkel around the remains of an old half-sunken fishing boat. Hoisting sail again after lunch, it's another lovely downwind couple of hours to Kos - the biggest island in the area. Although it's still not exactly large, it can be quite the culture shock after the past few days of traditional Greece (hey, they have cars not donkeys here! :>).

Chance to wander round the 12th century fortress which still guards the entrance of the harbor; or perhaps go sit under the same plane tree where (reputedly) Hippocrates had his students swear their doctors' oaths! For the less culturally inclined, there is the great modern-day Greek traditional of "taverna-sitting" - grab a beer or a milkshake, and watch life go by on the busy waterfront.

Day Seven
Disembarkation is at 9am when your singles sailing vacation finishes. For those wishing to stay longer in Kos, we can recommend a couple of great little family pensions. For onward travel, there are 3-4 flights per day back to Athens; 2 ferries per day to Bodrum (Turkey), or connections to other islands in the Dodecanese group. Pls request our notes on Kos for more details.

Greece and Turkey Sailing Adventure Vacations

7-day Northern Route – Dodecanese islands, Greece

A sailing trip along the Dodecanese islands of Greece departing and returning from Kos, along Kalimnos, Lipsi, Patmos, Arkoi, and Leros. A beautiful cruising area are the northern Dodecanese islands. In true SeaScape style, we stay away from the busier “touristy” spots. We visit islands like Patmos, where St. John wrote the Book of Revelations; next-door neighbour, Lipsi, which boasts at least 52 blue-domed churches, whilst the tiny paradise-island of Marathos just next to Arkoi is home to just three families.

Day One

Embark 9 am in Kos Marina. After boat briefing, unpacking, and generally getting comfortable with the yacht, we’ll set sail for Kalimnos. Around noon we will stop in a quiet bay for a delicious on-board lunch and a swim, before we continue our sail to Vathi. A dramatic little spot and a perfect introduction to “traditional Greece”; a well-hidden and very narrow fjord-like entrance, opening up into a tiny fishing village at the head of the bay. It boasts one main street and a collection of houses scattered into the valley; an unexpected patch of lush vegetation on an otherwise very dry and arid-looking island. Vathi is the only place on the entire island that is lucky enough to have its own spring water supply, and they use it carefully to cultivate citrus fruits, figs, grapes and anything else that can be persuaded to grow.

Day Two
After a morning swim in Vathi’s ocean swimming pool next to the dock, we’ll set sail for Leros, the former home base of SeaScape Sailing and therefore an island we call home. We go for anchor in a remote, quiet bay to give you the best sailing experience: a night on anchor with a sky full of stars to fall asleep under. We’ll cook a dinner on board while you enjoy some quality time on the boat or go for a few rounds on the paddleboard. We might go to bed early or stay up late and enjoy some great music and a few drinks, it’s really all up to you! One thing is guaranteed: after this night, you have experienced the real deal of living off-the-beaten track on a sail boat.

Day Three
We look forward to visit Lipsi - island of the 42 blue-domed churches. It is a small, untouristy village, with an unruly array of whitewashed buildings scattered around the bay. The vivid streaks of traditional blue trim and the blazing bougainvillea pinks & purples make it a real photographers' dream! To cool off, there is a lovely little sandy beach, a few minutes’ walk over the hill from where we moor the boat, and a great hike out to the headland with spectacular views out to sea. (good morning), they'll give you a huge smile and a "kalimera-sas" back (good morning to you too) ! (Note: that's "kali-MER-a", not "calamari" :> )

Day Five
We set sail towards what we call “Pirate Bay” on Kalymnos, where we anchor the boat close to shore and take the dingy to go on land. This little tranquil oasis is a little Pirates in the Greek islands getaway you won’t find when you follow the main tourist tracks. It’s like a tiny safe heaven popped up in the middle of nowhere, with its own little bar and restaurant.

Day Six
Sail to our lunch-n-swim stop at one of the little, uncrowded bays around Kalimnos. Time to go hike around the hills and maybe pick some beautifully scented sage to make a fine, healthy brew of sage-and-local-honey tea! After lunch, it will be time to sail back to Kos and our marina base. The luxury of land showers and a laundry, and perhaps a cold one at a bar. Our final dinner is usually at a gorgeous beachfront restaurant.

Day Seven
Disembarkation is at 9am. For those wishing to stay longer in Kos, we can recommend some great little places to stay around the island. For onward travel, there are several daily flights to many European cities. You will definitely be heading home with a nice tan!

The city started as a railroad-construction camp, boomed when oil was discovered in 1957 and seven years later, the Good Friday earthquake altered the landscape forever. Our morning guided tour takes us to the Port of Anchorage, Ship Creek, Bootleggers Cove, Earthquake Park and the busiest seaplane base in the world, Lake Hood! Then we travel the scenic drive up to Flat Top Mountain, home to many Alaskan animals for breathtaking views of the city.

Alaska dog sledNext we visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center to meet native Alaskan carvers, see live demonstrations, enjoy singing, dancing, storytelling and explore recreated winter dwellings. Walk the beautiful grounds and see our the natives lived. At the Heritage Center experience dog mushing (optional): the rush and power of 18 Alaskan Huskies, pound-for-pound the strongest animals in the world, pulling you in an off road vehicle on a wooded trail. Meet mushers and veteran racers in the Iditarod and Yukon Quest and hear firsthand the fascinating stories, the history and evolution of dog mushing and the intriguing experiences of these mushers
Tonight enjoy our Welcome Dinner at a local Anchorage restaurant.

Vacation Day 3: 26 Glacier Cruise
Alaska 26 glacier cruiseToday we depart Anchorage and travel along the Seward Highway, one of North America's Scenic Byways. Towering mountains reveal the effects of winter avalanches, spring waterfalls, and at times, Dall sheep can be spotted on the rocky outcroppings.
Next we Cruise over 140 miles into Prince William Sound for amazing views of 26 “named” glaciers and numerous unnamed ones. Get face to face with towering masses of ice, “hear” glaciers move and gaze at their brilliant blue colors. But it's not all about the ice - watch for sea otters, whales and birds as we travel through glacier-filled College and Harrimann Fjords. Keep a look out for bear, mountain goats and bald eagles. At the end of our trip we stop at a bird rookery, home to thousands of Kittiwakes.

Vacation Day 4: Anchorage to Seward by Train - Exit Glacier

Alaska Alaska TrainOur day starts with the experience of riding the rails, the historic Alaska Railroad. We travel between Anchorage and Seward on the Coastal Classic in the domed car. The route parallels the Seward Highway along the Turnagain Arm, then travels up into the mountains, away from the road past glaciers and alpine meadows. We travel through tunnels and by railroad houses, home to rail workers before reaching Seward.

Alaska AnchorageAfter our group checks-in to our hotel let's get up close to a glacier and experience the dense blue ice while listening to it crackle. A quick shuttle ride to Exit Glacier and we will walk the lower trail (a gentle half mile) for a photo opportunity right in front of the glacier face. The upper trail provides an overlook, as if you're standing right on the glacier.

Vacation Day 5: Kenai Fjords Day Cruise

Alaska Sea LionOur thrilling full-day cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park, where wildlife is abundant and tidewater glaciers are massive will be an unforgettable experience. Witness calving from a close distance, a process by which glaciers shed giant blocks and slabs of ancient ice. It is also our best opportunity for whale watching in Alaska.
These pristine waters are home to whales, otters, sea lions and seabirds. Our cruise is hosted by a Kenai Fjords National Park Ranger who will give us a detailed narrative on the history, ecology, and geology of the area and the wildlife.

Vacation Day 6: Seward to Anchorage - Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

Alaska Aalaska WildlifeLet's get up close to a glacier and experience the dense blue ice while listening to it crackle. A quick shuttle ride to Exit Glacier and we will walk the lower trail (a gentle half mile) for a photo opportunity right in front of the glacier face. The upper trail provides an overlook, as if you're standing right on the glacier.
Time for browsing the shops in Seward or for a kayak excursion before our train. Grab a bite to eat before boarding then relax on our late afternoon train back to Anchorage.

Vacation Day 7: Anchorage

Alaska anchorage museumThis morning we visit the Anchorage Museum, the state's largest and a world-class art, history and science museum. Its collections offer an overview of Alaska’s rich history and an introduction to its varied cultures. The Alaska History Gallery delves into the Russian era, the gold rush, the Exxon Valdez oil spill and more. The Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center gives us a glimpse of the diverse culture of the Alaska Native peoples, while the Imaginarium Discovery Center will ignite the child in all of us.
The Anchorage Market & Festival is a fun place to shop, eat or just sit back and enjoy. The music and dancing performances keep the market lively. With so many Alaskans selling their products, the first thing you’ll notice is there are so many things to buy.

Then we gather for our Singles Group Farewell Dinner at one of Anchorage's local restaurants.

Vacation Day 8: Depart Anchorage, Alaska

"Tavvaujusi" to all our new friends as it time to depart to the airport and the end of another wonderful singles vacation. Hope to see you on another trip soon.

Traveler Reviews

Eastern Europe - 2015

8/10/2015 8:36 AM – This is my first trip where I seemed to have a lot of free time, but it was needed. The cities we visited were perfect for walking around (and with our hotels in such close proximity, we could go back to the hotel for a rest before heading out again). We did a lot of walking tours, which I love, but it was nice to have that downtime in the afternoons to enjoy a leisurely lunch, shopping (not a big shopper, but nice to window shop). For me it was a great combination - even if I did sometimes spend my free time walking even more!

8/9/2015 6:37 PM – I thought the itinerary was great! A perfect balance of activities and tours. In Kraków, I would highly recommend the Shindler Museum to people for their free afternoon. It is amazing!

France - 2015

7/20/2015 8:02 PM – William was a wonderful tour guide. He did his best to try and please everyone. Think he went the extra mile in some cases.

7/16/2015 11:05 AM – Our guide, William, was a good guide, he kept us on-time, was flexible with us. His English was good. He was a very nice person he never was upset. Sometimes people can be a little rude.

Greece Dreams - 2015

7/9/2015 6:42 PM – Great trip!!!! I enjoyed every minute of it.

7/9/2015 5:11 PM – Overall I had a great time on the trip. I appreciated that you arranged an upgrade to single status for me at no extra charge since I was the only man on the trip.

Galapagos Islands - 2015

5/28/2015 5:49 AM – Yes, I was satisfied with the tour itself and the fact that we typically joined other groups for the tours to allow us to meet other people.

5/26/2015 3:50 PM – I was very impressed with how helpful and available Sheryl was before the trip. I will definitely be traveling with Best Single Travel in the future.

Niagara Falls Weekend - 2023

7/14/2023Patty Beltramo: My first time ever going on a trip like this. Kayla our guide is a Superstar. All was organized to perfection and all the tours were fantastic. I and we all had a fabulous time. Thank you for our delicious farewell dinner, that was the Cherry on top of this vacation.

7/16/2023Diane Rivera-Robledo: I just returned from their Niagara Falls trip. I have to say that I was a little nervous to trip with people I didn’t know. Our group was wonderful. Everyone was so inviting that in no time you felt like you were traveling with friends. This was my first experience with Singles Travel Group and it won’t be my last.

New Years Caribbean Cruise - 2023/2024

1/14/2024Sharon Reid: I really did enjoy the ship and the trip. The weather was great almost the whole trip. I enjoyed that the excursions were included, and it was an easy trip to fly from Phoenix to Miami, take the shuttle to the hotel, have a nice dinner with some of the group that were staying there too, and then be transported to the dock. It was also great that we got to the ship early enough that we didn’t have to deal with any crowds and our rooms were ready as soon as we got on the ship.

Nancy Jacoby

a year ago – "First experience with BST, so I didn't know what to expect. Our tour leader Diane was the absolute best! Her versatility & ability to make things work for the group was outstanding."

Jimmy Donaldson

a year ago – I recently returned from the Niagara Falls trip with Best Single Travel, and it was nothing short of amazing! From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, making the entire experience stress-free and thoroughly enjoyable.
The itinerary was well-planned, balancing sightseeing, group activities, and free time. The highlights, of course, were the breathtaking views of Niagara Falls. The boat tour that took us up close to the falls was unforgettable.
Our host was knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to assist, making sure everyone in the group felt included and had a great time. The accommodations were comfortable, and the meals were delicious.
If you're considering this trip, don't hesitate – it's a must-do experience that I highly recommend! I'll definitely be booking with Best Single Travel again."

Yifei

2 years ago – "I have been looking forward to the Kenya Africa trip and had very high expectations. I thought the cost was bit high. However, the actual experience exceeded my high expectations and I felt the money was well worth it! The number and variety of animals we saw, the service from the tour guide and hotel staff, the food and drinks were all super high quality. Highly recommend."

Riva Bard

a year ago – "One of the most amazing experiences of my life. From all the temples to the beach trip in Phuket I loved it all."

Debbie Simpson

2 years ago – "I recently went to Kenya this is my 4th trip with Best Single. Anyone reading this TAKE ANY TRIP with them. You will have top notch accommodation, amazing guides, and a itinerary which will be beat by none. As far as traveling in a group it is what it is but I feel that the people that are drawn to this organization all are experience travelers and we all seem to get along for day one....the other travelers enchanted my experience and never detracted from from the experience. All these trips are very inexpensive for the quality you get in the guide, itinerary, accommodation, and food. The groups are also smaller which I like easier to travel and more intimate. Do your self a favor and book a trip ANY trip with Best Single Travel"

Deborah Parsons

a year ago – "Really enjoyed the trip. Organized and Kayla was a gracious host and guide. The only comment I have is to know the ages of your group and maybe get a consensus of what excursions they would like before booking them for the group. Thank you. "

Join us for our return to Lake Tahoe and enjoy all 3 mountains (see multi mountain video tab below) collectively with over 10,000 acres of varied ski terrain. Totaling close to 300 trails & 61 lifts, there is certainly enough to keep us busy all week. Each mountain offers a unique mix from beginner to advanced slopes to enjoy. We have contracted with the various ski schools and arranged for instructors to give us private tours at each mountain so we won’t be wasting any time figuring out the best places to ski each day. Our private tours will give you the opportunity to enjoy the mountain with other singles at your level of ability and no need to fumble with a map. When you have one day at a mountain it is ideal to have the best ski guides leading your group. March is considered high snow season in the Sierra’s.

Our very luxurious hotel the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (see hotel tab below) is located in the heart of South Lake Village and only a 1 minute walk to the main gondola. The gondola rises almost 2 miles from the ski village to the main lifts located in the middle of both the California & Nevada sides of the mountain. You can ski down in either direction ending in California or Nevada. We will ski two days at Heavenly, and one day each at both Kirkwood & Northstar.. this leaves you with one optional day to either ski Heavenly or just relax and enjoy the resort area. (hotel spa, bike the lake, or just a lazy afternoon of window shopping)

Our week will be filled with great skiing at multiple mountains, incredible food choices, and a fun singles group to share this all with. Plus, South Lake is famous for its entertainment including live music at multiple venue’s, gambling and lots of great bars for late night enjoyment. We have a very full week planned so come rested and hydrated so you can enjoy it all. “It’s a tsunami of fun.”

Transportation to Jackson Hole Ski Resort:
Our guests prefer to manage their own transportation to Jackson.. as it is a great opportunity to burn up those miles. Airport Code is JAC
There is NO shuttle service at Jackson Hole Airport so upon arrival you will be taking a ride share which is very similar to an Uber however there are larger vehicles that can carry all of your luggage and ski gear and are available upon arrival of all flights. Try to pair up with someone also waiting for a ride share going to town, the more people that share the less expensive the trip will be…

Arrival Time:
When you book your air to Jackson Hole try to arrive no later than 5 PM so you will have time to attend the Sunday evening welcome party, it is a great way to meet everybody and learn about our weeks activities. We will have sandwiches, salad and soda so come hungry. If you have trouble finding flights consider arriving a day early or staying a day late.. it is a popular alternative.
